When
you do, you'll find the nicest things in life.
Since we opened our doors in 1990, we have been Steamboat's largest full service bookstore and the locals' favorite meeting place for Good Books, Good Coffee and Good Friends.
Who are we? Real people who read books and admire great writing. We stand ready to help you find your next great read. Check out our recommendations from our staff and friends.
What about our store? We are a full service bookstore, with extensive collections of current literature, fiction, young adults, history and memoirs. We feature a large children’s collection, and our famous treehouse reading space where our youngest children can escape. We carry the Indie Bound selections, NY Times best sellers, and as a sponsor of the Literary Sojourn (www.literarysojourn.com), a full selection of the Literary Sojourn authors. When you’re away from Steamboat, you can find us here on the web (www.steamboatbooks.com). In addition to our carefully hand selected inventory of books, we stock greeting cards, games, puzzles, toys, candles, journals, and a varied assortment of unique gifts.
Our café serves the best coffee drinks in town, pastries, Big Train drinks, smoothies, soups and salads for lunch, and in the afternoon and evening, wine and hors d’oevres. We are pleased to be serving Storm Mountain Coffee, roasted locally in Oak Creek.
The store, in new digs on 9th Street in historic downtown Steamboat Springs, is open 7 days a week from 9am 'til 8pm, later in the evening during peak seasons.
Walking into a bookstore can be an overwhelming experience. Bookstores are owned and operated by folks with an almost obsessive lust for books, so the shelves are usually overflowing with titles.
How are you to decide? We feel your pain.
Our staff is here to help and have selected some books that they have read and enjoyed. We have a group of quite diverse readers, so take a moment and check out their suggestions.
Be sure to come check out our bargain section, with many new titles and selections at incredibly low prices. A Great and Terrible Beauty Original Price=9.99 Bargain Price=5.00
Unique and provocative selections from a great diversity of voices...all personally recommended by the independent booksellers of America.
I Am Legend
by
Matheson, Richard
"In a genre where authors typically employ more gore and violence than plot and character, it is refreshing for a vampire novel to succeed as brilliantly this one. Robert Neville is, to the best of his knowledge, the only human still alive. As he searches for answers, the story moves beyond the horror genre and into the realm of social criticism. A terrific study of solitude and fear." --Jon Stich, DIESEL, A Bookstore, Oakland, CA

The Confessions of Max Tivoli: A Novel
by
Greer, Andrew Sean
"We are each the love of someone's life." So begins "The Confessions of Max Tivoli," a heartbreaking love story with a narrator like no other.Born with the physical appearance of an elderly man, Max grows older mentally like any child, but his body appears to age backwards, growing younger every year. And yet, his physical curse proves to be a blessing, allowing him to try to win the heart of the same woman three times as at each successive encounter she fails to recognize him, taking him for a stranger, so giving Max another chance at love.Set against the historical backdrop of San Francisco at the turn of the twentieth century," The Confessions of Max Tivoli "is a beautiful and daring feat of the imagination, questioning the very nature of love, time, and what it means to be human.
